FAMSA

This project provides food parcels to 25 women and their children suffering from HIV/Aids. It was started by Judy Cooke,  who is one of our church members. Social workers from FAMSA provide emergency relief to the breadwinners while they deal with their status and develop the necessary support system. (www.famsawc.org.za)

SISONKE BEAD WORKING CO-OPERATIVE

This project is based in Langa township and connected to the Langa Health Clinic. It  has been supported by RUC's social worker and therapist Anne Marsh. The group of women involved have begun to reap profits from their beading work. At the same time the Langa Clinic is beginning, with the help of Dr. Carol Craig, a member of our congregation, to plan for the administration of Anti-Retrovirals. Several members of our congregation are involved in Langa, with the HIV positive project. Other members are also fighting the devastating effects of this pandemic elsewhere in our communities.

23 October 2005 RUC Morning Service: A dedication ceremony for the prayer shawls sent from the Steven’s Avenue Congregational Church in Portland Maine to the Women of the Sisonke Beading and Langa Sewing Group.
