-- I love soccer! --

FROM SHAMIENA CLOETE,

one of RUC's soccer players

Soccer is an interesting sport, especially for a girl like me. I enjoy soccer so much and would love to continue with this brilliant sport. As a soccer player I have become a different person, especially when it comes to my confidence. Soccer made me confident and tough. I enjoy the fact that I get a fitness out of playing this sport. At first I thought that soccer and me don’t go together but after watching one simple game I certainly fell in love with the sport and all I ever do is eat, sleep and dream soccer. This sport out of all other sports interested me … which shocked many people but I knew that I was doing something that I enjoy and I didn’t just give up on it because people were negative towards me. I’m so dedicated when it comes to my soccer life and I wish that one day someone can credit me for my talent. I truly believe that anyone has the ability to do well in something you are talented in.

The message to people out there: work hard in what you are doing and don’t let anything and anyone stand in your way of success.

FROM BONGANI MENTASHE

RUC's soccer coach

Bongani, the RUC coach says that soccer is in his blood. He played as a semi-professional. He is passionate about community development because he knows something about the experiences some teenagers are going through. So this soccer programme is his ministry. Those Bongani trains (boys & girls) come from Retreat, Khayelitsha, Guguletu as well as areas around Rondebosch. The two soccer teams will have their big annual Do, ‘the sports award’ some time in October. It will consist of a formal dinner and each player will be able to bring her or his date. Trophies will be given away. Anyone willing to help organize this evening should speak to Bongani cell: 083 720 0768 or to Philomène
